SELF ABSOLVED

2016

In an attempt to understand the building blocks that form ideas of self in our current culture of selfies and social media, Mann explores the self, and how we curate and process our identities amid a culture of constant self-analysis and obsession. Can you absolve yourself of yourself if you look hard enough? An autobiographical series about coming of age into womanhood. This body of work has been mostly documented in her book ‘endless quest for myself(ie)’. Mann's dry and self-satirical humor is a unifying force weaving the dream-like paintings together. Primarily working with a pallet of vibrant peach and pink tones, Mann references nostalgia, pop culture and familiar symbols to address societies hypocritical and flawed projections of love and desire
